about

It all started in 97 through djing jungle in the back room for the amorphous night, run by grant barber in the chapel venue in leicester, a building i now work behind which is a bit wierd. i used to miss most of the main room activity because i wasn't so into techno but jungle was clearly losing what it was i loved about it. every now and then i'd catch the end of some sets (most notably subhead) and have a real wake up call. slowly i started to see that there was more to techno than just 4 to the floor. over the next few years i started work on my own tracks, trying to take the energy of a hip hop or jungle night and fuse with a sort of friendly grinding industrial techno thing. i gave the results to tobias schmidt at an uglyfunk night and next thing i know he's offered me the debut release for his new nest label. after that i did a few more tracks in the cut out style with nest and collaborated on the mush ep with toby but was distracted by life events and a lack of focus that meant i never really capitalised on the thing i had going then. i'd have loved to made more cut out music but the truth is it's only a small part of me and so i just never did. however, periodically new tunes would happen and i would give them to grant who eventually put some out on the ugly funk label. i was playing at ugly funk pretty regulalry and especially enjoyed djing in the boxy back room where we had mental 'anything goes' sessions that often eclipsed what was going on in the main room. the elektrowerkz was a great venue for ugly funk, proper dingy with a crazy layout leading to other, equally strange nights so you'd get people wandering between parties when they opened it all up sometimes. 2 split eps folllowed for ugly funk, the first was 4 of my tracks and 1 from crystal distortion and the second featured 2 tracks from me and 2 from aeox who i'd met at a couple of the ugly funk parties and are thoroughly decent chaps. after this i concentrated on live sets, wanting to go out and do something, but not djing. i would love to have been happy with playing live but i rarely am. i put a lot of work into my live sets, so it's always tough when it doesn't really work out. nowadays i am shorter than ever for time and a bit removed from the electronic music scene but i'm still working on new cut out stuff and eventually i'll have a new ep to put out which i promise will be the greatest thing you've ever heard.
